The Island from Afar

Before entering the island, find a place from which Kondey’s tree line can be clearly seen. This may be the harbour, the beach, an approaching vessel or another approved shoreline viewpoint. Photograph the almost-level palm canopy remembered in the traditional verse.

Beneath the Malaa

Enter the shaded interior beneath Kondey’s palms and find three different layers of island vegetation. Photograph or sketch one example from each layer.

• Something growing above you
• Something growing at eye level
• Something growing close to the ground

Do not remove leaves, flowers, fruit or plants without permission.

Discovery 3

Gifts of the Island

With help from a local guide or participating resident, identify three useful resources traditionally obtained or produced from the island’s land: coconuts, cultivated plants, palm materials, food, natural household materials or locally made products. The objective is to understand how each resource is used, not merely to photograph it.

Discovery 4

The Hands of Kondey

Meet a participating resident, craftsperson, farmer, fisher, guide or elder, and ask: “What is something about Kondey that visitors usually do not notice?” Record the answer in your Ocean Realms Quest Log.

Always ask permission before photographing or recording any resident.

Discovery 5

A Mark of Time

Visit a guide-approved landmark connected to Kondey’s past or changing way of life, and observe:

• Its material and shape
• Its surroundings
• What is known about it, and what remains uncertain
• Why it matters to the community

Do not climb on structures, enter restricted areas, touch fragile remains, remove objects, collect archaeological material or disturb religious or culturally sensitive places.

Discovery 6

The Returning View

Return to the shoreline in the late afternoon or near sunset and create one final photograph that holds part of Kondey’s green canopy and part of the sea around the island. It represents the meeting of Kondey’s two living gardens.
